Biotransformation Reactions by Rhizopus spp.
More LessThe Rhizopus spp., in particular Rhizopus oryzae, are among the most frequently used whole cell biocatalysts. The fungus is known to catalyze the bioconversion of various reactive and non-reactive substrates with high regio- and stereoselectivities. The range of products obtained from these reactions has been attributed to the substrate binding modes within the enzyme's active site. More recently, an active site model has be Read More

Naturally Occurring δ-Hydroxy-γ-Lactones: Muricatacins and Related Compounds
Authors: M. C. Murcia, Cristina Navarro, Ana Moreno and Aurelio G. CsakyIn this account we present and critically analyze the different stereoselective synthetic strategies that have been reported in the literature for muricatacins [5-(1-hydroxytridecyl)dihydrofuran-2-ones], naturally occurring δ-hydroxy-γ-lactones related to acetogenins, which display cytotoxic activity towards human tumoral cell lines.

2-Acetylbenzofurans: Synthesis, Reactions and Applications
Authors: Mohamed A. Metwally, Bakr F. Abdel-Wahab and Gamal A. El-HitiThis review deals with synthesis and reactions of 2-acetylbenzofurans. Some of these reactions have been applied successfully to the synthesis of biologically important compounds. The main purpose of this review is to present a survey of the literature on 2-acetylbenzofurans chemistry and provides useful and up-to-date data for their applications since such compounds have not been previously reviewed.

β -Nitroacrylates as an Emerging, Versatile Class of Functionalized Nitroalkenes for the Synthesis of a Variety of Chemicals
Authors: R. Ballini, S. Gabrielli and A. PalmieriModern organic synthesis requires easily obtainable synthetic building blocks that can be manipulated without the need of severe reaction conditions and that show high chemical versatility so that they can be employed in diverse synthetic processes. β- Nitroacrylates are a class of electron-poor alkenes having two electron-withdrawing groups in α- and β-positions. This peculiarity makes their chemical behaviour mo Read More

Electrical Transport Mechanisms and Photovoltaic Characterisation of MgPc /p-Silicon Hybrid Organic-Inorganic Solar Cells
Authors: M. M. El-Nahass, A. A. Atta, H. E.A. El-Sayed and E. F.M. El-ZaidiaHybrid organic-inorganic solar cell was fabricated by thin film of nanocrystalline magnesium phthalocyanine, MgPc, on ptype Si substrates using the conventional thermal evaporation technique. The measured electrical parameters were used to determine the predominat conduction mechanisms of these heterojunctions in the temperature range 298 to 373 K. The dark forward current was found to be increased exponentially with Read More
