Abstract

BioFETs are a technologically important class of biosensors that have been widely studied for a number of applications. In addition to other applications, DNA sensing using BioFETs has attracted much research in the recent past. DNA-sensing BioFETs have been developed using a variety of different approaches, and DNA detection in extremely low concentrations has been demonstrated. This review paper provides an exhaustive review of major recent developments in BioFET research for DNA sensing. The working principles behind BioFETs are discussed, and BioFETs are classified based on the underlying sensory element and transduction mechanism. Various types of BioFETs are described in detail, and important research results in each category are summarized. This review is expected to aid in furthering the understanding of BioFETs as a class of bioelectronics device for DNA sensing.
