Iodolactonization: Past and Present Examples
Authors: Manuel S. Laya, Ajoy K. Banerjee and Elvia V. CabreraCommercially available iodine has played an important role in organic synthesis. The review describes the use of iodine in the synthesis of several iodolactones and lactones. The cyclization of nonconjugated unsaturated acids, diallyl- hydroxyacetic acids, benzyl carbamates, norbornene derivatives, aryl-allenoic acids, olefinic amides and γ-methallyl malonic acids with iodine leads to the formation of iodolactones. Nanohydroxyapatite Microspheres as a Biocompatible and Recoverable Catalyst for Synthesis of Carbon -Phosphorous Bond Formation
Authors: Laila Ma'mani, Akbar Heydari and Roohollah K. ShiroodiNanohydroxyapatite microsphere (HAp) as an environmentally benign and biocompatible material is found to be efficient catalyst for the synthesis of α-hydroxy and α-amino phosphonates derived from carbonyl compounds. This heterogeneous catalyst does not require aqueous workup, additionally catalyst can be simply recovered and recycled.

Developments in the Photochemistry of Diazo Compounds
Authors: Nuno R. Candeias and Carlos A. M. AfonsoThis review focuses on photolytic reactions of diazo compounds, namely aryl-diazo alkanes and α-diazo carbonyl compounds, covering their synthetic applications such as Wolff rearrangement, 1,2-shift, X-H insertion, cyclopropanation, hydrogen abstraction and reaction with oxygen as well as physical organic studies, with special relevance to mechanistic considerations. Singlet-triplet gap studies and the solvent influenc Read More
