Abstract

Carbohydrate microarrays are powerful tools to investigate the recognition events because of carbohydrate-protein interactions in high-throughput fashion. Some methods have been utilized to immobilize the nonderivatised or derivatised carbohydrates on support surfaces in the microarray mode. Because polysaccharides have the hydrophobic interactions, polysaccharide arrays are very easy to construct by non-covalently immobilizing them onto all kinds of microarray surfaces. However, mono- and oligosaccharides have the hydrophilic interactions. So, they must be derivatised and then covalently or non-covalently immobilized onto microarray surfaces to construct mono- and oligosaccharide microarrays. Based on the reason, construction strategies of mono- and oligosaccharide microarrays were analyzed and summed up in recent years herein.
