Abstract

In recent years, there has been a considerable interest in developing sustainable chemistries utilizing green chemistry principles. Since the first published report in 1986 by Gedye and Giguere on microwave assisted synthesis in household microwave ovens, the use of microwaves as an alternate non-conventional energy source in organic synthesis has been extensively explored. Microwave irradiation has been successfully applied in various organic chemical transformations. The current review summarizes the applications of microwave irradiation in the synthesis of nucleosides and nucleotides and their chemical transformations.
