It is a great pleasure to present the inaugural issue of Current Biotechnology. The journal aims to publish the very best expert reviews and thematic journal issues in the rapidly expanding field of biotechnology. Articles are anticipated to highlight cutting edge advances in areas that currently include synthetic biology, systems biology, biological engineering and bioprocess engineering as they impact upon biopharmaceutical discovery, stem cell therapy, tissue engineering, biofuels, plant and environmental biotechnology, biocatalysis, industrial biotechnology, drug delivery, biosensors, healthcare diagnostics and nanobiotechnology. The journal will serve as a publishing platform for novel scientific results as well as for other original research, reviews and communications related to biotechnology, and welcomes suggestions for future review articles and thematic issues. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bentham Science Publishers for appointing me as Editor-in-Chief of the journal, and to acknowledge Hoor Fatima for her enthusiasm, dedication and continual support.
